Ginseng is a mysterious plant, surrounded by many myths and enigmas. Peculiar to note, the culture of Asian countries (Korea, China) is inseparably connected with this plant. So, first in the list is stereotype #1: ginseng increases blood pressure.

This opinion is highly wide-spread and rather reasonable, deeply rooted in our Slavic consciousness.

As scientists revealed, basic active properties of ginseng are – ginsenosides, which are primarily in charge of its healing properties. There various types of ginsenosides, some of which increase blood pressure and are dissolved in spirit, while others – decrease blood pressure and are dissolved in water. That simple!

It turns out, blood pressure is increased not by ginseng itself but by the spirit potion. Will ginseng increase, decrease blood pressure or have no influence at all – totally depends on the way its roots are processed after picking and the form of production (medicinal extract, potion etc.)

Stereotype #2. Ginseng price is cheap.

Over years, ginseng price has equalled precious metals and stones, and even now, in Asian countries, where mass growing is arranged, all technologies adjusted and everything is put at large, quality ginseng price is not cheap at all. The process of growing (endures 6 years!) and the following way of processing are highly costly and incredibly complex. Thus, logical question arises: why in a country like ours, where ginseng is not sprouted and not grown, the pharmacy price of ginseng potion varies from 30 to 50 hryvnas?
