The year 1899 was the starting point in the history of Korean red ginseng. This was the year when Samjungkwa was founded as the forerunner of the Korea Ginseng Corporation.

1956 Construction of Korean plant by ginseng production
The promotion of Samjungkwa to the Monopoly Authority gave the Korean red ginseng industry a new lease of life. After a Korean red ginseng plant was built in Buyeo-gun, Chuncheonnamdo, the industry began exporting ginseng products to overseas markets including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Thailand.

1981 Entering the international market
Korean ginseng thrived on the global market, resulting in an astonishing $100 million in ginseng exports in 1978. Later, it was transformed into the Korean Monopoly Corporation and eventually reconstituted as the Korean Tobacco and Ginseng Corporation (KT&G,). In 1991, KT&G opened an overseas subsidiary in Hong Kong, establishing a strong position for further international expansion.
