Red ginseng prevents pneumonia
A group of Korean researchers made an outstanding discovery: red ginseng contributes to the effective prevention and treatment of pneumonia.
Pneumonia is the fourth most common cause of death in the world, ginseng prevents the infection from entering the bloodstream and promotes timely recovery.
Red ginseng removes 99% of pneumonia pathogens.
Journalist: Cold dry weather can easily provoke bronchopulmonary diseases. Pneumonia, in particular, can cause the death of a sick person. A group of Korean researchers found that red ginseng can serve as a good prevention of pneumonia. Please tell us more about this discovery.
Dr. Dong-Kwon Rhee: Pneumonia starts with a mild cough that gets worse and worse over time, and septicemia can set in, which can be fatal. In fact, pneumonia is the fourth most common cause of death in the world, with about 3 million people dying from this disease each year. Recently, a group of Korean researchers made an outstanding discovery, which showed that taking red ginseng prevents the development of this dangerous disease.
An experiment was conducted in which experimental mice received red ginseng extract twice a day for fifteen days, after which they were given injections of the causative agent of pneumonia. The mice treated with ginseng remained healthy, but half of the mice that did not receive ginseng died after 4 days. In addition, 99% of the causative agents of pneumonia in the lungs and blood of mice treated with ginseng completely disappeared.
“Red (6-year-old) ginseng stops the development of pneumonia pathogens, thereby removing 99% of infectious agents from the body. We can say with confidence that the plant has an amazing effect in preventing the spread of infection in the human body,” explained Dr. Dong-Kwon Rhee, Professor of Pharmacology at Sungkyunkwan University.
There are 95 types of pneumonia pathogens, which makes it almost impossible to completely prevent pneumonia, including vaccination. However, the discovery made by scientists is a real breakthrough in the fight against pneumonia.
The results of the study were published in December 2015 in Phytomedicine, an international scientific journal.
